The farm Ruarai is a mixed farm with coffee, trees and some fruits.
The different plants help each other with shade, as a natural fertiliser and gives the farmers an income throughout the whole year.
Ruarai is the Kikuyu name meaning “place of rocks”, which refers to the very rock-filled Ruarai River that flows down along the coffee factory (mill), and which the farm is named after.
It’s also a popular location for the local people as nearby rhe open air market called Gakindu is held. It’s known for selling livestock.
